Housing Colorado seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Conference and Events Manager.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Conference and Events Manager plans, manages, and oversees the Annual Housing Colorado Conference and Housing Colorado’s networking, professional development, and educational events throughout the year.  This position provides staff support and guidance to the Conference and Education Committees and provides financial oversight of conference, education, and special events budgets and management of event contractors.  The Conference and Events Manager also manages the logistics, speaker securement, and registration for the calendar of educational and networking events provided for Housing Colorado members and sponsors.

Areas of Responsibility

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to manage the tasks below. As a small staff organization, we foster a collaborative and team-oriented culture, with opportunities to work on a diverse range of projects throughout the year. 


  • Responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of Housing Colorado’s annual conference, bringing together over 600 people from across the state. Ensure a high-quality experience for all who interact with conference from speakers to attendees.
  • Manage and oversee budget for conference, including interacting with hotel and ensuring all expenses remain within budget.
  • Manage and staff planning committee meetings in preparation for annual conference, maintain committee rosters and provide clear guidance and support to committee leadership.
  • Facilitate process for determining conference schedule of events – including managing all details for attendee events such as breakfast and lunch keynotes and oversee all processes for conference presentations (including posting opportunities to present, managing selection committee, and determining selected presentations have what they need at conference). 
  • Manage conference communication throughout year – including website updates, email marketing blasts, and know-before-you-go information.  
  • Serve as lead staff in onsite conference coordination, including serving as point-of-contact with hotel, managing staff and volunteers, and additional paid conference staff.
  • Employ marketing strategies that result in the diverse representation of our industry among attendees, including residents, BIPOC participants, rural communities, etc.
  • Facilitate the collection of data to quantify diversity, equity and inclusion metrics, and use that data to set continuous improvement goals.
  • Ensure conference and events present balanced content adding value to all points of the housing continuum, and that the content includes the perspectives of marginalized individuals and communities


  • Facilitate work of Education committee to determine year-round events, including desired speakers. 
  • Create annual calendar of events that meets the needs of Housing Colorado membership and lives into our mission as an organization.
  • Ensure that education programming is in line with DEI commitments in both content and participation.
  • Secure, evaluate, and maintain relationships with sponsors for events throughout the year.
  • Propose plan to Board of Directors for events calendar.
  • Oversee budget for events and track income/expenses throughout the year.
  • 1. An educational background in events planning and management preferred (comparable work experience may substitute).
  • 2. Four to six years’ experience in meeting coordination and/or management preferred.
  • 3. Proficiency with basic computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite required, familiarity with database systems preferred.
  • 4. The desire to make decisions creatively and collaboratively and the ability to make executive decisions when in the best interest of the program or organization when necessary
  • 5. Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
  • 6. Excellent organizational skills and follow through required.
  • 7. Experience with volunteer committee coordination preferred.
  • 8. Ability to travel within Colorado for educational programs and conferences (occasionally) required.Ability to travel within the Denver Metro area for event planning and management (frequently) required.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-65,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. 


Benefits include: medical and dental insurance through an employer plan and generous sick and vacation leave. Employer match of employee contribution to 401(k) Plan up to 6% of salary following 90 days of employment.
